Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine whether lifitegrast can improve the refractive accuracy of cataract surgery and improve corneal higher order aberrations.

Setting:

Experimental study performed with IRB approval in a clinical private practice setting.

Methods:

Patients with dry eye (corneal staining & decreased TBUT), had biometry performed before & after 28 days of lifitegrast BID. We compared refractive predictability and HOAs before and after treatment.

Results:

Among 27 eyes, accuracy of biometry performed before vs after lifitegrast was within 0.25 D in 62% before vs 69% after, within 0.5 D in 77% vs 85%, & within 0.75D in 85% vs 100% after lifitegrast (P <0.04). The percentage of patients who had RMS HOA ≤ 0.5µ was 52% before & 70% after lifitegrast (P<0.01).

Conclusions:

Lifitegrast significantly improves biometry accuracy and HOAs in cataract patients with dry eye.
