Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the accuracy of different formulae for calculating the
intraocular lens (IOL) power for eyes with an axial length (AL) ≥ 26.0 mm using optical biometry.
Setting:
Cairo University Hospital.
Methods:
The study included twenty eyes with high axial myopia AL ≥ 26 mm having Immature cataract.Optical biometry was done using 3 different IOL formulae, which are; third-generation formulae such as SRK/T and fourth-generation formulae such as Haigis & Barrett Universal II , with target refraction -1.00 D.Phacoemulsification was done with In the Bag implantation of IOL power based on Barrett Universal II formula aiming for -1.00 D postoperative refraction.
Results:
Twenty eyes were enrolled in the study. A mean predictive error of (+/- 0.67D)was detected with Barrett Universal II formula showing the lowest mean absolute error(MAE)(0.61D) and SRK/T and Haigis had similar MAE (0.72&0.74 D respectively).
Conclusions:
Barrett Universal II formula produced the lowest predictive error compared with SRK/T and Haigis formulas. For high myopic eyes, the Barette Universal II may be the best choice.
