Novel approach to managing persistent fetal vasculature

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Is to present a novel, unique and safe approach in managing persistent fetal vasculature that is alwayes challenging to treat

Setting:

Magrabi Eye and Ear hospitals and Centers,

Methods:

In this study 4 patients with persistent fetal vasculature age range from 2 months -2years one was 15years with cataract and glaucoma surgery done in childhood but with untouched persistent fetal vasculature and seclusio pupillae.Technique is done under general anesthesia, after making the side port and corneal tunnel, viscoelastic is injected in AC then performing synchiolysis and anterior capsulorhexis using FUGO blade, I/A OR PHACO of the lens is done then posterior removal of the fibrovascular disc using fugo blade with hooking and cutting of hyaloid artery.10/0 sutures to the side port and corneal tunnel with injection of intracameral triamcinolone.

Results:

Complete removal of the persistent fetal vasculature with safe and marvelous easy technique that help the surgeon for secondary procedures and get rid of sever complication associated with these challenging cases No intraoperative bleeding from  hyaloid artery or postoperative inflamation Follow up was 1 day, 1week, 2weeks and monthly later on.

Conclusions:

effective and safe technique in managing persistent fetal vasculature with no intra or post-operative complication achieving satisfactory results.
