Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the effectiveness, technological features and prospects of using 3D digital imaging system in cataract surgery

Setting:

Department of eye diseases "Samara state medical University" Samara, Russia Ophthalmological clinic "Eye surgery", Samara, Russia

Methods:

The prospective study examined the results of cataract surgery in 417 patients (500 eyes) aged 59.5±6.7 years; women – 384, men – 116. All patients had complicated and age-related cataracts of varying degrees of maturity and density of nuclei. Monofocal, multifocal and toric IOLs of Alcon were implanted with the expectation of refraction of Em±0,5 diopter using the navigation system "VERION, Alcon" and "PENTACAM, Oculus". The work uses a microscope "LEICA "with camera" NGENUITY "instead of optical eyepieces and digital interface" VERION Digital Marker Microscope", surgical systems of companies "Alcon" and "Bausch&Lomb"

Results:

There were no intraoperative complications. High and stable refractive results were obtained. All patients are satisfied with the treatment. The innovative possibilities of "heads-up" surgery and the main technological features of 3D digital imaging system in cataract surgery were evaluated. The possibility of using a lower level of illumination of the surgical field with the risk of iatrogenic retinal phototoxicity, which is convenient for the surgeon, as well as to expand the depth of field, clarity, contrast of the surgical field, the ability to use standard digital filters. The prospects of further development of three-dimensional visualization system are considered.

Conclusions:

3D digital imaging system optimizes cataract surgery and opens new scientific and practical prospects for its improvement. Key words: 3D digital visualization, heads-up surgery, 3D cataract surgery, NGENUITY.
