Abstract Details
Purpose:
The management of aphakia has been a stimulating challenge for anterior and posterior chamber surgeons. Many solutions for this problem have been used in the last 30 years. We present a new way to solve aphakia using the Soleko Carlevale sutureless foldable scleral fixation lens.
Setting:
Versilia Hospital Ophthalmology Department.
Methods:
10 aphakic eyes ( 2 post traumatic, 4 intraoperative capsular breaks with no IOL implantation, 4 IOL luxations) were treated using the Soleko Carlevale Lens in the last 12 months. The AA compare the surgical methods, the safety and the length of surgery, the long term results (VA and complications) between this lens and the previously used scleral fixation lenses.
Results:
The Soleko lenses have proved to be stable an without long term complications in all the cases performed. Last, but not least, the surgery technique to use this lens requires a very short learning curve for surgeons.
Conclusions:
Soleko Carlevale lens is a very good device to manage the challenging problem of aphakia.
