Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a case where acute opacification of the optic occurred just before Precizon monofocal 560 (OPHTEC BV) was implanted into the eye.

Setting:

Case Report

Methods:

Intraoperative clouding of some kinds of hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs) have been reported. However, no case has been reported about Precizon monofocal IOL opacification during surgery.

Results:

A 48-year-old female with cataract underwent phacoemulsification by conventional technique in her left eye. The monofocal lens (Precizon 560), which is made of hydrophilic acrylic properties, was chosen for implantation. Before the implantation into the eye, it became cloudy immediately after it was loaded in the IOL injector. Then it was replaced by another Precizon monofocal IOL in the injector and then implanted into the eye. No opacification of the IOL was observed. The first lens underwent temperature fluctuation from cold outside to operating room.

Conclusions:

The acute intraoperative clouding of monofocal hydrophilic acrylic lens (Precizon 560) due to fluctuation of temperature should be reminded.
