Abstract Details

Purpose:

Purpose of this study has been to compare conventional pre operative as well as intra operative axis marking techniques with the markerless image guided system. It also would assess the surgeon comfort and the smooth operating room flow in high volume  cataract surgical centre.

Setting:

Private hospital set up in india, pune. Kamal netra rugnalaya. Catering to premium cataract surgical work.

Methods:

123 eyes of 74 patients within age group of 45 yrs to 85 yrs with cataracts with no associated co morbidity and a corneal astigmatism value of 1 diopter and above pre operatively were chosen. These 123 eyes were compared to retrospective data collected over the past two years of 167 eyes  before aquiring the markerless callisto eye image guided system All patients underwent  phacoemulsification  cataract surgery with a 2.2mm clear corneal incision.

Results:

119 of the total operated eyes were found to be within 0.40 diopters +/- in terms of post operative residual corneal astigmatism. That was a good 97% patients within the desired result. In comparison only 91% of the patients from the retrospective group  ie about 151 eyes were found to be within 0.5 diopters +/- post operative residual corneal astigmatism.

Conclusions:

In conclusion though the conventional  reference marking system for  implantation of toric iol‘s has been more widely used and with good effect in my opinion the image guided markerless callisto eye system  definitely enhances the post operative results and is surely a excellent tool for toric lens practice. As has been demonstrated by my results in the one year I have been using this system it is a significant advantage in a high volume surgical set up.
