Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate the visual, refractive, and topographic outcomes after simultaneous topography – guided photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) using Nidek Excimer laser Platform and accelerated corneal crosslinking (CXL) in eyes with keratoconus.

Setting:

Moscow Research Institute of Eye Deseases

Methods:

Patients with 2 years of follow-up were examined. Refraction, uncorrected (UDVA) and best-corrected (BDVA) distance visual acuity, corneal topography and pachymetry, Coma-RMS were evaluated at 1 week, 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after surgery.

Results:

49 eyes of 38 patients were included in our study. Stromal ablation was ≤ 50 µ. Preoperatively spherical and cylindrical refraction was -2.35 ± 0,19 and 2,79 ± 0,14. Postoperatively spherical  refraction became -0.65 ± 0,09 and cylindrical refraction 0,76 ± 0,07. Significant improvements were seen in the UDVA at 1 month, BDVA and Coma-RMS at 3 months. Futher improvement of  UDVA was observed at 24 months. Keratoconus progression was not observed at any patient.

Conclusions:

simultaneous topography – guided photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) using Nidek Excimer laser Platform and accelerated corneal crosslinking (CXL) effectively normalizies the surface of the cornea and improves visual functions.
