Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyse outcomes of implantation of Tecnis Symfony extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL
Setting:
Optical Express, United Kingdom
Methods:
In this study, 3,897 eyes of 2,639 patients who underwent refractive lens exchange or cataract surgery with implantation of the Tecnis Symfony IOL were retrospectively evaluated. The mean age of the study group was 59 ±7 years. Of all patients, 88% had hyperopic refractive error preoperatively and 12% were myopic. Refractive, clinical and patient reported outcomes were analysed for 3 months postoperative visit.
Results:
Postoperatively, 83.2% of patients achieved 20/20 or better and 99.2% achieved 20/40 or better bilateral uncorrected distance visual acuity. Bilateral uncorrected near visual acuity was N6 or better in 85.9% of patients and N8 or better in 95.4% of patients. Of all patients, 94.9% would recommend the procedure to their friends or family and 95.1% would do the same surgical procedure again. Preoperative to postoperative increase in night driving difficulty was noted by 5.7% of patients.
Conclusions:
Bilateral implantation of EDOF resulted in good binocular distance vision and functional near vision.
