Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare four calculators for toric intraocular lens (IOL) calculation with two formulas incorporating the posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) and two standard calculators.
Setting:
Outpatient surgery center Ljubljana Slovenija
Methods:
De-identified IOLMaster 700 biometry and keratometry data of 193 patients who had previously undergone successful cataract surgery and toric IOL implantation (ZEISS AT Torbi 709) were provided to perform a retrospective analysis on different IOL calculation algorithms: Haigis-T, Barrett toric, Z CALC 1.5 and Z CALC 2.0.
Results:
The results show for both formulas incorporating the PCA a lower prediction error in spherical equivalent (Barrett toric -0.10 D, Z CALC 2.0 0.11 D vs. Haigis -0.18 D, Z CALC 1.5 -0.16D) as well as in cylinder (Barrett toric -0.18 D, Z CALC 2.0 -0.12 D vs Haigis -0.33 D, Z CALC 1.5 -0.30 D).
Conclusions:
A consideration of the PCA with the help of a model can improve the postoperative refractive outcome.
