Abstract Details

Purpose:

The main purpose of the study is to evaluate and compare the evolution of refractive and visual results with 3 types of toric IOL implanted after cataract surgery in the context of normal practice.

Setting:

Fisabio Oftalmologia Medica. Valencia. Spain.

Methods:

The sample consisted of 66 patients undergoing cataract surgery and to whom a toric IOL is implanted from three possible types:  Precizon toric ( Opthec ®), Isert toric (Hoya ®) or  AT Torbi 790m (Zeiss ®)  The 66 patients provide a total of 107 eyes to the investigation. This is a prospective-retrospective study with a follow-up of between 1 and 2 months after the intervention. The different visual and refractive parameters constitute the primary variables of the investigation. These parameters are: non corrected visual acuity (NCVA), best correct visual acuity (BCVA), sphere, astigmatism, and spherical equivalent.

Results:

NCVA was on average 0.53 ± 0.24 with Precizon, 0.62± 0.22 with Isert and 0.67 ± 0.25 with AT Torbi BCVA was 0.36 ± 0.22 , 0.34 ± 0.22  and 0.38 ± 0.24 respectively. Reduction of a sphere was, on average, -1.66 ± 3.67, -0.76 ± 2.70 and -1.80 ± 4.34 D in the 3 groups. Astigmatism reductions were 2.62 ± 1.64 with Precizon, 2.69 ± 1.53 with Isert and 3.61 ± 1.90 with AT Torbi. The spherical equivalent variations in the groups were -0.10 ± 3.87, 0.49 ± 2.72 and -0.02 ± 4.70 D.

Conclusions:

There were statistically significant (SS) changes after surgery with increased in NCDVA and BCDVA and reduction of the sphere and astigmatism with all 3 IOL. Spherical equivalent remained without changes after surgery. These results were independent of the type of IOL implanted, with no SS difference between IOL although some small tendencies.
