Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze the visual quality and patient’s satisfaction in patients implanted with a trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting:
Clínica Rementería, Madrid, Spain
Methods:
The study included patients having bilateral implantation of the AcrySof® PanOptixTM Toric IOL. Three months after surgery patients underwent: monocular and binocular uncorrected and corrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity (VA), binocular defocus curves and binocular photopic contrast sensitivity (CS). Patient’s satisfaction was evaluated with the Catquest9-SF questionnaire.
Results:
This study included 84 eyes of 42 patients. Patients showed monocular uncorrected far, intermediate and near VA of: 0.06 ± 0.07 logMAR, 0.23 ± 0.20 logMAR and 0.05 ± 0.09 logMAR, respectively. The binocular defocus curve did not present the classical V-pattern of bifocals and showed VA values over 0.1 logMAR in all focal points between -2.5D y +0.50D. CS values were within normal ranges and the scores reported in the questionnaire showed high rates of patient’s satisfaction.
Conclusions:
The results of the study conclude that visual quality and subjective patient’s satisfaction are excellent in astigmatic patients implanted with the PanOptix toric IOL, achieving a high spectacle independence at all distances after cataract surgery.
