Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate the first results of new robotic arm femtomatrix laser (Keranova) for cataract surgery.

Setting:

GEMINI Eye Clinic

Methods:

New Keranova laser consists of two major innovations. 1. It has a robotic arm for docking the laser to patient eye. 2. The femtomatrix principle enables the laser to work about 10 times faster than current femtosecond lasers used in cataract surgery. The laser performs capsulotomy and lens fragmentation. 10 eyes of 10 patients underwent Keranova laser assisted cataract surgery. Video of the procedure will be provided. UDVA, CDVA, distance refraction and endothelial cell density was assessed with 1 month follow up.

Results:

Docking was uneventful in all cases. Complete circular capsulotomy was achieved in all cases. Fragmentation was achieved in all cases to the extent that there was no need to use any ultrasound for lens material emulsification. All 10 surgeries were uneventful.

Conclusions:

The first short term experience with robotic arm Keranova femtomatrix laser assisted cataract surgery is very promising. Further evaluation in higher amount of surgeries with longer follow up will be needed.
