Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study the content of cytokines and growth factors in the intraocular fluid of patients with developed stage of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
Setting:
Multidisciplinary Science and Technology Complex Eye Microsurgery named after Academician S. N. Fyodorov, Federal State Institution, Novosibirsk Branch, Russia.
Methods:
86 patients were included in the analisis. 56 patients with POAG were included in the main group, 30 patients with cataract - control group. The concentration of 17 cytokines and 3 isoforms of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF- β)-1,2,3 was determined in the aqueous humor of eyes using a Bio-Plex Pro™ Human Cytokine 17-plex Assay and Bio-Plex Pro ™ and TGF-β 3-plex Assay kit by flow-through fluorometry on a Bi-Plex 200, Bio-Rad double beam laser analyzer, USA.
Results:
Statistically significant increase in the concentrations of cytokines and growth factors (Interleukin (IL) -4, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-12, IL-17, transforming growth factor beta-1,2,3, macrophage inflammatory protein - 1beta) in the intraocular fluid of patients with POAG, in comparison with the intraocular fluid of the persons with cataract was shown. As well as a statistically significant decrease in the concentrations (IL-2, IL-10, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor) in patients with POAG.
Conclusions:
Statistically significant increase in the concentrations of cytokines and growth factors (Interleukin (IL) -4, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-12, IL-17, transforming growth factor beta-1,2,3, macrophage inflammatory protein - 1beta) in the intraocular fluid of patients with POAG, in comparison with the intraocular fluid of the persons with cataract was shown. As well as a statistically significant decrease in the concentrations (IL-2, IL-10, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor) in patients with POAG.
