Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of this study is to determine whether high values of kappa angle measured with Pentacam topography are related to alteration in the Pentacam D-values of the Belin-Ambrosio.
Setting:
Private clinic, Málaga. Spain.
Methods:
Data were avaliable for 60 eyes of 30 patients. First we performed overall descriptive analysis. Then we defined two groups: group 1 lowest 25% of angle kappa and group 2 highest 25% of angle kappa. We compared two groups using either parametric T-Test or Mann-Whitney test depending whether the assumption of normality was saisfied. To account for intraeye correlation we applied mixed effects regresion modeling when examining relationship between angle Kappa and each of the D-Values (D, Da, Db, Df, Dt, Dp).
Results:
There is no statistically significant correlation between angle kappa and most of the D-Values. Only correlation between angle Kappa and Df was significant when calculated with non parametric rank based Spearman method. This correlation is though ambiguous and prediction derived from mixed effects model is unprecise.
Conclusions:
In clinical practice, high kappa angle values do not alter the D values of Belin Ambrosio, so it should not be taken into account when analyzing the Pentacam topography in patients prior to corneal refractive surgery. There is a minimal correlation that lacks clinical relevance.
