Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the visual outcomes, spectacle independence, and satisfaction of the patients who received a new trifocal intraocular lens with sinusoidal vision technology (SVT) following cataract surgery.

Setting:

Okan University, Faculty of Medicine, Ophthalmology department

Methods:

Forty eyes of 20 patients received Acriva UD Trinoval IOL following cataract surgery. Follow up was done on 1st day, 1st week and 1 and 3 months after the operation. Visual acuity, refractive outcome, defocus curve, contrast sensitivity of the patients were evaluated. Spectacle independence and dysphotopsic problems were evaluated with a questionnaire.

Results:

Mean uncorrected monocular distance visual acuity (UDVA) increased from 0.22 LogMAR to 0.05 LogMAR postoperatively. Ninety percent of the patients had J1 uncorrected near vision and J2 intermediate vision. Contrast sensitivity scores were in the normal range at 3 months. The defocus curve had a smooth transition at the last visit. Ninety percent of the patients were satisfied with the surgical outcome. The reported dysphotopsic phenomena were non-disturbing and noticeable high level of patient's satisfaction was recorded by the third month.

Conclusions:

The new trifocal IOL with SVT seemed to provide satisfactory visual performance at all distances and good contrast sensitivity, resulting in high levels of patient satisfaction and spectacle independence.
