Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate the quality of vision and patients satisfaction after cataract phacoemulsification with mono- and multifocal lens implantation in patients with different types of refraction.

Setting:

SI “Zaporizhzhia Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education Ministry of Health of Ukraine”.

Methods:

160 patients (320 eyes) who underwent cataract phacoemulsification were examined. Patients aged from 37 to 73 years. The observation groups were distributed according to the initial refraction and the IOL (monofocal (IQ), diffractive (ReSTOR),  trifocal (PanOptix)). The study included patients whose compliance with the predicted and obtained postoperative refraction was noted. Quality of life was assessed using a questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25), patients satisfaction was evaluated according a subjective assessment of the near, distance and night vision.

Results:

The highest satisfaction with the vision quality after a monofocal IOL implantation (98%) was observed in the myopia patients. Dissatisfaction with the quality of near vision was the highest at the myopia group (16.7% with Restor and 7% with Panoptix IOL). Dissatisfaction with the quality of distance vision was indicated at the group of hyperopia and emmetropia patients (12% with Restor and 5% with Panoptix IOL). Night vision disorders were identified in 16.7% of myopia, 5% of hyperopia and 3.5% of emmetropia patients after Restor implantation and in 7% of myopia, 2% of hyperopia and emmetropia patients after Panoptix implantation.

Conclusions:

All types of IOL provide improved quality of life and overall satisfaction with the results of surgery. Trifocal IOL increases patient satisfaction with near and night vision, especially in individuals with myopic refraction.
