Abstract Details

Purpose:

Using Scheimflug tomography to investigate the zone corneal power difference centred on pupil and corneal apex in 3mm and 4mm diameter.

Setting:

A prospective observational case series study

Methods:

A total of 90 eyes were included in this study. The axial front keratometry, total refractive power, true net power centred on pupil and corneal apex in 3mm and 4mm zone diameter were assessed. Paired sample t test was used for data comparison.

Results:

For both 3mm and 4mm diameter zone corneal power, the flat K values of axial front keratometry, total refractive power, true net power centred on pupil were significantly higher than that of centred on apex (all P < 0.001 ). However, the steep K and astigmatism magnitude values centred on pupil were lower than that centred on apex (all P < 0.001 ). Compared with 3mm diameter zone corneal power centred on pupil and corneal apex, the corresponding 4mm diameter zone showed higher values.

Conclusions:

The corneal power difference of 3mm and 4mm centred on pupil and corneal apex should be noticed in clinic practice.
