Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate change in total higher order aberrations (HOAs) after trans PRK for moderate myopic andmoderate myopic astigmatismpatients.

Setting:

Private Practice

Methods:

This retrospective analytical study.The main focus was on coma,trefoiland spherical aberrations as these were the most significant components of HOAs. 46 eyes of 26 patients with age ranging from 18-40 years were included in the study with refractive error ranging from 3D to 6D and astigmatism ranging from 1D to 2 D. RMS value of total HOAs was used for quantitative assessment of HOA. Pre-operative and 6 months post-operative RMS values were considered for study to find change in HOA.

Results:

Age of the patients ranged from 18 years to 40 years with mean age of 29 ±11 years. 20 (43.47%) were males and 26 (56.52%) were females. Mean RMS value of HOAs, coma and spherical aberrations, trefoil was calculated both pre operatively as well as 6 months post operatively. Corneal total root mean square higher-order aberrations and corneal spherical aberrations decreased postoperatively; however, the change was not significant . Corneal coma and trefoil showed a marginal decrease postoperatively.

Conclusions:

Corneal wavefront guided Trans Epithelial PRK by Smart pulse technology is an effective for correcting moderate myopic astigmatism and provides fewer induced corneal aberrations
