Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the efficacy of Femto-LASIK surgery depending on the hypermetropia degree and corneal parameters.

Setting:

S.N. Fedorov NMRC "MNTK "Eye Microsurgery", Tambov branch, Tambov, Russia

Methods:

210 surgeries (210 eyes) were analyzed (78 eyes with high hypermetropia, 94 – hypermetropia of average degree and 38 – mild degree). Patients’ age was from 17 to 55 years old. All patients underwent standard Femto-LASIK. The follow-up was from 1 month to 6 years.

Results:

In order to evaluate the surgical efficacy the data of keratometry, pachymetry were assessed as well as the greatest possible optical ablation zone. The most persistent effect was noted in patients with the corneal diameter not less than 11.8 mm, the initial keratometry from 41.0 to 44.0 D and the greatest possible optical ablation zone not less than 6.5 mm. In patients with the corneal diameter less than 11.6 mm and initial keratometry more than 45.0 D the minimal effect was observed even in hypermetropia of mild degree.

Conclusions:

1. The efficacy and reasonability of hypermetropic Femto-LASIK depend on the initial corneal parameters and the degree of hypermetropia. 2. The evaluation of the initial corneal parameters and the degree of hypermetropia allows determining the indications and contraindications for this surgery. 3. The analysis of the described inclusion criteria for the hypermetropic Femto-LASIK surgery gives the opportunity to receive the best postoperative result.
