Abstract Details

Purpose:

In this study, an intraocular lens with extended depth of focus (EDOF-IOL with addition +1.5 D) enclavated in the capsulotomy after FLACS in cataract surgery was evaluated. Visual acuity, subjective refraction, PCO rate and Centration was investigated.

Setting:

nordBLICK Augenklinik Bellevue

Methods:

In an ongoing prospective multicenter study 24 eyes of 12 cataract patients with expected postoperative corneal astigmatism below 0.75D were included so far. After a femtolaser assisted automated capsulotomy of 5.0mm, a EDOF-IOL with 4 additional haptics for rhexis fixation was implanted (FEMTIS Comfort, FB-313MF15; OSD Medical GmbH, Berlin, Germany). The capsulotomy was centered on the pupil center. Preoperatively, intraoperatively ,1-7 days, 6-8 weeks and 6 months postoperatively, examinations of uncorrected and best-corrected far, intermediate and near visual acuity, subjective refraction were evaluated. The visual acuity from distance to near vision was determined using a defocus curve.

Results:

No complications occurred intra- or postoperatively. Best-corrected distance visual acuity improved from 0.25 logMar (± 0.18) preoperatively to 0.00 logMar(± 0.09) 6-8 weeks postoperatively, 0.00logMar (± 0.11) 6 months postoperatively. Corrected intermediate visual acuity was 0.00 LogRad(± 0.09) after 6-8 weeks, 0.00 logRad(± 0.11) after 6 months postoperatively. SE after 6 months postoperatively is +0.21 D (± 0.11). The defocus curve shows a decimal visual acuity of at least 0.5 over a dioptric range of 3.5 D up to a near distance of 50cm. A treatment-relevant, visus-reducing poststar after 12 months is not present postoperatively.

Conclusions:

The rhexis-fixed FEMTIS Comfort IOL with extended depth of focus shows good visual results over a visual range from a distance to 50 cm. The results regarding safety of this new IOL design are very good. The PCO rate after 6 months postoperatively is low. Longer follow up will be examined.
