Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the efficiency and practicality of 2 femtosecond platforms for cataract surgery

Setting:

1.Aier School of Ophthalmology ,Central South University 2.Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital

Methods:

The prospective study enrolled 185 eyes (120 patients) with age-related cataract that underwent either femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery using the LenSx laser system (Group I, n=95) or the LENSAR® Laser System (Group 2, n=90).Outcome measures included : the docking time, number of docking attempts, total femtosecond laser treatment time, vacuum time, femtosecond laser assisted capsulotomy time , femtosecond laser assisted fragmentation time,total femtosecond laser treatment time. Pupil diameter before and after femtosecond laser treated was accessed .The absolute IOP was measured with a rebound tonometer (iCare PRO) before and after laser-assisted cataract surgery, Intraoperative complications were recorded.

Results:

There were no statistical differences in number of docking time and attempts. However total femtosecond laser time was 110.56±23.26 in Group 1 and 157.61±31.06 in Group 2 (P=0.00). Vacuum time was 91.58±21.50 in Group 1 and 141.28±25.99 in Group 2 (P=0.00). Laser assisted capsulotomy time was 13.51±2.98 and 3.00±0.00 (P=0.00). Laser assisted fragmentation time was 17.27±3.12 and 12.02±3.99 (P=0.00). Total laser treatment time was 30.11±3.17 in Group1 and 15.0±3.91 in Group2 (P=0.00).Pupillary miosis was 0.25±0.60 and 0.52±0.70mm (P=0.025). The mean IOP rise was 3.28±4.66 and 5.57±5.45(P=0.005).

Conclusions:

The results of cataract with both femtosecond lasers were similar, and both platforms produced efficacious outcomes. The LenSX® Laser System is more time-saving, LenSX® Laser System seems to induce significant pupillary miosis compare to LENSAR® Laser System .A increase inIOP using LENSAR® Laser System is more strong compare to The LenSX® Laser System .Very few complications occurred during the operation , making it patient friendly.
