Trifocal implants in post-LASIK lens surgery: toric or not

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes after cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange with implantation of a new generation EDOF trifocal IOL in eyes following myopic or hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis.

Setting:

Brussels Eye Doctors, Brussels, Belgium.

Methods:

10 post-LASIK patients (20 eyes) were enrolled to undergo cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange with implantation of EDOF trifocal FineVision Triumf (POD L GF) IOL (PhysIOL SA, Liège, Belgium). Monocular uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity, distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) at 100cm and distance corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) at 40cm, was evaluated postoperatively. The postop-refraction was analysed. A questionnaire was submitted to the patients to evaluate satisfaction and side effects.

Results:

The mean age of the patients was 66.0±8.0 years. Postoperatively (mean follow up: 2 months), mean logMAR monocular UDVA, CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA were 0.16±0.13, 0.04±0.08, 0.10±0.13, and 0.08±0.10, respectively. A total of 65% and 88% of the eyes achieved a decimal DCIVA and DCNVA of ≥0.8, respectively. The mean postoperative spherical equivalent was -0.19±0.38 D with 77% of the eyes within ±0.25D. Satisfaction of patients was high.

Conclusions:

The new generation FineVision Triumf (POD L GF) IOL provides effective restoration of visual function at distances from near to far after surgery. This new technology seems to be perfectly suitable for post-LASIK patients.
