Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the postoperative change in effective lens position of an hydrophobic, acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) from 1week to 2 weeks and 1 month.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna

Methods:

59 eyes of 30 patients (20 women, 10 men) with senile mono or bilateral cataract were implanted with the Vivinex XC1 IOL. Preoperative biometry including axial eye length (AXL) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) was assessed with the IOL Master 700. Postoperative aqueous depth (AQD), was measured after 1 week, 2 weeks and 1 month using the IOL Master 700. Correlation of changes in effective lens position (ELP) with AXL, ACD and implanted IOL power within the first month postoperatively was assessed.

Results:

Mean preoperatively measured AXL and ACD were 23.29 ± 0.63mm and 2.98 ± 0.37mm, respectively. Mean change in AQD from 1 week to 2 weeks, 2 weeks to 1 month and 1 week to 1 month was +7 ± 51 µm, -9 ± 56 µm and -3 ± 67 µm, respectively. Change in AQD from 1 week to 1 month was significantly positive correlated with ACD (r = 0.54; p<0.01) and AXL (r = 0.34; p=0.023). There was no correlation between changes in AQD and implanted IOL Power (r = -0.20; p=0.18).

Conclusions:

The Vivinex XC1 IOL appears to have very good axis stability with very low IOL movement after 1 week.
