Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present clinical data of best corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), defocus curve and first patient experiences for intermediate distance activities after implantation of the new monofocal Tecnis© Eyhance IOL, ICB00 (Johnson & Johnson Vision (J&JV))
Setting:
1. Department of Ophthalmology, Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital, Tilburg, The Netherlands and 2. Lasikcentrum, Boxtel, The Netherlands
Methods:
50 eyes of 25 standard cataract patients with minimal to no corneal astigmatism (≤ 1.0) were operated bilaterally by phaco emulsification (Signature Pro, J&JV) and a Tecnis© Eyhance IOL, ICB00, was implanted. Corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and defocus curves were measured. Patients were questioned for spectacle dependence for intermediate distance activities.
Results:
Average corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 1.02 Snellen (≥20/20). The defocus curve showed a broad and relatively flat profile: CDVA: 0.83, (S+0.5), CDVA: 1.02, (S 0), CDVA: 0.95, (S-0.5), CDVA: 0.81, (S-1), CDVA: 0.62, (S-1.5), CDVA: 0.50, (S-2). Many patients reported on spectacle independence for activities in the intermediate range such as reading a computer or tablet, seeing price tags/ shopping, driving/also at night, cooking/ eating, seeing uneven surfaces while walking, particularly going downstairs. The dysphotopsia profile of the ICB00 was similar as its predecessor the Tecnis© ZCB00 IOL
Conclusions:
The Tecnis© Eyhance IOL is the latest Tecnis IOL innovation in the monofocal IOL category. As compared with other monofocal IOLs currently available patients implanted with the Tecnis© Eyhance IOL, ICB00, benefit from: improved intermediate vision, 20/20 distance vision and a similar dysphotopsia profile as the ZCB00
