Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the level of agreement of the IOLMaster and the Verion image-guided system in terms of keratometric values and IOL power calculation.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, Alexandroupolis, Greece.

Methods:

This is a prospective, comparative, study. Apart from keratometric values, IOL power calculations were compared for 8 IOL models (Acrysof SN60WF, SN60AT, SN6ATx, TFNT00, TFNTx0, SV25T0, SV25Tx and Tecnis ZCB00) using 4 formulas (SRK/T, Holladay 1, Hoffer Q and Haigis).

Results:

98 eyes from 54 patients were included. Compared with IOLMaster, Verion measured significantly steeper K1, K2 and Km values, but no significant difference was observed in astigmatism power. With SRK/T, SV25T0, SN60WF, SN6ATx, and SN60AT showed significant difference in the mean IOL power calculated by the two devices, while no significant difference was observed in TFNT00, TFNTx0, SV25Tx, and Tecnis ZCB00. With Holladay 1, Hoffer Q, and Haigis, significant differences were found in the mean IOL power of all IOL models except for Tecnis ZCB00. Moreover, Verion calculated a significantly lower mean IOL power for all formulas and IOL models.

Conclusions:

Proper implantation of toric IOLs, especially multifocal toric ones, is most likely to require both IOLMaster and Verion. According to our outcomes, differences will be encountered in > 50% of the scheduled implantations. These differences indicate that the surgeons should interpret their results with caution when planning a toric correction since they could interfere with proper IOL power selection and implantation.
