Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare clinical and patient reported outcomes of different combinations of multifocal lenses in ametropic patients undergoing refractive lens exchange
Setting:
Optical Express, United Kingdom
Methods:
Three categories of patients were compared: Group A – bilateral implantation of Tecnis ZKB00 multifocal diffractive IOL with +2.75 D near add (3,362 patients), Group B - combination of Tecnis Symfony extended depth of focus IOL in dominant eye and Tecnis ZKB00 in non-dominant eye (1,250 patients) and Group C - combination of Tecnis Symfony in dominant eye and Tecnis ZLB00 diffractive multifocal IOL with +3.25 D near add in non-dominant (665 patients). Three months clinical and patient reported outcomes were analysed.
Results:
The three groups had comparable binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity, with the percentage of patients achieving 20/20 or better 87.7%, 86.1% and 88.1% for groups A, B and C, respectively. Binocular UNVA was the best for group C (93.4% achieved N6 or better), followed by group A (91.6% N6 or better) and group B (89.7% N6 or better). Patients in each group had comparable satisfaction with vision, with 91.2%, 90.0% and 91.2% being satisfied in groups A, B and C. Preoperative to postoperative increase in glare was recorded in 14.6%, 15.3% and 15.1% of patients in groups A,B,C, respectively.
Conclusions:
Bilateral combination of Tecnis ZKB00 seemed to be the most preferred by surgeons/patients. All three groups achieved comparable clinical/patient reported outcomes, except for near vision where the combination of Tecnis Symfony and Tecnis +2.75 near add showed inferior outcomes.
