Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of corneal cap thickness on the anterior and posterior surface of corneal curvature after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).
Setting:
Aier School of Ophthalmology, Central South University, Changsha, China
Methods:
50 eyes of 25 patients were collected. The difference of spherical equivalent (SE) in the same people was less than 0.5D.Patients received SMILE with a 110μm cap thickness in one eye and 140μm cap thickness in the other. Manifest refraction, Best uncorrected visual acuity (BCVA) ,uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA),and the anterior and posterior surface of corneal curvature (mean keratometry power(Km) at 2 and 6 mm zones distance from the pupil center)were measured by Pentacam HR at preoperatively and 3 month postoperatively.△Km was the difference between the preoperative and postoperative value of Km.
Results:
SE,BCVA and central corneal thickness(CCT) was (-4.9±0.90)D, (0.22±-0.06) ,( 559.2±25.7) μm and( -4.88±-0.90)D,( 0.10±-0.18) ,( 560±25.5) μm in 110μm group and in 140μm group, respectively(P>0.05).The CCT was(470±22.7) μm and( 454±92.7) μm in 110μm and in 140μm group, postoperatively. No statistically significant differences were found in UCVA and SE at postoperatively (p>0.05).△Km of the anterior surfaces of 2mm,6mm zones was 3.94±0.71 D and 3.68±0.58 D in 110μm group respectively, which was no statistically significant differences in 140μm group(3.56±0.63 D and 3.78±0.67 D)(p=0.065 and p=0.226).In both groups, Km of the posterior surfaces was no statistically significant change after surgery.
Conclusions:
The differences of visual, refractive outcomes and the change of corneal curvature were quite small when using 110μm and 140μm cap thicknesses in SMILE
