Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the method, its safety and efficacy in patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism of different degrees.

Setting:

Orenburg branch of S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Orenburg, Russia.

Methods:

160 patients (319 eyes) were operated on using Contoura method. The age of the patients ranged from 20 years to 50 years old, the observation period was 1 year. Myopic astigmatism averaged 3.75 D (from 1.0 to 6.5). Average visual acuity with correction before surgery was 0.78±0.04. Corneal flap of 90 μm thickness was formed with a femtosecond laser Femto LDV Z8 (Ziemer). The excimer laser correction was performed with WaveLight EX500 (Alcon) installation, frequency — 500 Hz, an optical zone diameter of 6.5 mm, and a total ablation zone of 9.0.

Results:

The average postoperative binocular visual acuity in the distance without correction was 0.89±0.05, after 1 month — 0.92±0.05 and remained stable throughout the entire observation period. There were no complaints of twilight and night visual discomfort. All the patients subjectively noted an increase in brightness and color contrast.

Conclusions:

The method makes it possible to improve vision, as well as spatial and contrast sensitivity, to choose a profession related to working in mesopic conditions.
