Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the dynamic real time IOP on rabbits for two phacoemulsifiers using different fluidic control systems.

Setting:

Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research centre, Ahmedabad, India

Methods:

Two phacoemulsifiers were compared. One system(Study Arm 1) used a traditional fluidic control system(Centurion, Alcon Labs). The other system (Study Arm 2) utilized a handpiece-based pressure sensor to improve surgical IOP stability(Centurion, Active Sentry). Dynamic real time IOP measurements was carried out in both groups using active sensors by a method previously published.

Results:

The system (Study Arm 2) utilizing a handpiece-based pressure sensor to provide a lower level of dynamic IOP variations – Study is on-going and final results will be provided at the meeting

Conclusions:

Use of a handpiece-feedback sensor reduces variations in the IOP of rabbits.
