Abstract Details
Purpose:
To demonstrate thah hydrosurgery (hydrodissection and hydrodelamination)in cataract surgery, can be perfofmed with the irrigating cannula connected to forced infusion.
Setting:
Centro Oftalmológico Tlalnepantla, Mexico
Methods:
200 patients were operated of cataract surgery with biaxial phacoemulsification by the same surgeon. 100 of them (control group)had traditional hydrosurgery with syringe and cannula; 100 of them (experimental group) had hydrosurgery with irrigating cannula and forced infusion prior to phacoemulsification. Results were compared betweem bothgroups, with datalike incidence of posterior capsule rupture, phacoemulsification time, total surgery time, total of instruments used in surgery and final best corrected visual actuity. Patients with retinal pathology and capslar-zonnnular disease, were excluded.
Results:
No differences between both groups were found in posterior capsular rupture, phacoemulsification time and final best corrected visual actuity. Signifficative difference was found in total surgical time and number of instruments used during the entire surgery.
Conclusions:
Hydrosurgery performed with irrigating cannula with non dominant hand and with forced infusion, is a safe and efffective technique that can decrease surgical time, and also decreases the number of instruments used during biaxial phacoemulsification.
