Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the safety, efficacy, refractive outcomes, predictability and aberrometric changes of femtosecond assisted LASIK (F-LASIK) with Smart Pulse Technology (SPT) using a new high definition ocular wavefront guided profile (OW) centered at the corneal vertex with asymmetric offset in Myopia/Astigmatism.
Setting:
Muscat Eye Laser Center, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
Methods:
This prospective study included 54 eyes of patients with a mean age of 29 years with Myopia/Astigmatism and high aberrations who underwent F-LASIK with the AMARIS 1050RS (SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions, Kleinostheim, Germany) using smart pulse technology and an OW profile centered at the corneal vertex with asymmetric offset, with a mean optical zones of 6,9mm. Follow-up was performed pre-operative and post-operative evaluation at 1day and 1month including; UDVA, CDVA, refraction, keratometry and Scheimpflug imaging (Sirius, CSO Inc.) and ocular pyramidal aberrometry (Peramis, CSO Inc.)
Results:
54 eyes were included, Mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) -2.31D, the mean postoperative SE was 0.00D, with 100% of the eyes within 0.5D of the target. Significant improvement (p<0.05) on Sphere, Cylinder, SE, UDVA and CDVA. CDVA improved in 71% of eyes. 4% of eyes lost 1 line of CDVA, aberrations at 5.0 mm showed no relevant changes at 1 month.
Conclusions:
Using a High Definition pyramidal Aberrometer in OW guided F-LASIK for Myopia / Astigmatism yielded excellent refractive and visual outcomes and is an effective treatment for virgin eyes. A longer follow-up is needed to control the change of the higher order aberrations.
