Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of the results of treatment of patients with refractory glaucoma who were treated with Ahmed valve implantation in an own modification, in 6 months follow up.
Setting:
Silesian Eye Treatment Centre
Methods:
Eight patients (eyes) have had implantation of Ahmed valve in an own modification. Model of the valve designed for anterior chamber usage were implanted to the the vitreous cavity. Previously all patients were treated with posterior vitrectomy surgery, without one who have been treated using combined surgery -PPV and Ahmed valve implantation.
Results:
Normalization of intraocular pressure were achieved in all cases. There were no observed erosions of the conjunctiva caused by elements of the valve
Conclusions:
An application of Ahmed valve in an own modification gives good results by normalization of the pressure and allows to avoid typical postoperative complications such as erosion of the conjunctiva.
