Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the level of agreement of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation between the Verion Image-Guided System and Partial Coherence Interferometry (PCI) (IOLMaster).

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, Greece

Methods:

Both eyes of cataract patients before IOL implantation were examined with the image-guided and PCI systems. Keratometry could be measured with both devices; axial length (AL) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) could be measured with PCI only. The IOL power calculations for seven IOLs (Acrysof SN60WF, SN60AT, SN6ATx, TFNT00, Panoptix Toric, SV25T0 and SV25Tx) using 4 formulas were retrospectively compared between the image-guided system and the PCI device. For IOL calculation with the image- guided system, the AL and ACD of the PCI device were applied.

Results:

Compared with PCI, the image-guided system provided larger values for keratometric measurements and lower IOL power calculations for all 7 IOLs and 4 formulas. Both biometries provided identical IOL power in approximately 45% of cases. Level of agreement was about 85% with a ±0.5 diopter tolerance.

Conclusions:

The IOL power calculation using the image-guided system demonstrated clinically relevant differences with the PCI device, that should be taken into consideration especially in premium lenses implantation.
