Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate refractive changes in pregnant women who have previously undergone LASIK.
Setting:
LaserVision gr Clinical and Research Eye Institute Athens Greece
Methods:
We studied 61 eyes of 32 women, pre- and 12 month post-LASIK (12-L) and during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy (3tP) for: age, months that pregnancy began after LASIK (mpL), acuity, manifest refraction (SE), keratometry (K), and epithelial profiles (EP) by OCT.
Results:
Age: 34 (24-42) years, mpL: 48 (12-108), pre-operative mean SE: -6.72 (-2.25 to -12.5 Diopters (D)). In mean values 12-L vs. 3tP: UDVA: 20/18 and 20/18, SE: -0.62±0.99D and-0.50±0.82D. Flat K: 39.88±2.04D and 39.23±2.48D; Central EP: 61.4±5.89μm 60.38±7.04μm.
Conclusions:
Pregnancy does not seem to affect long term LASIK refractive stability. No significant changes were noted during pregnancy compared to prior, in any of the parameters studied.
