Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present two relatively recent techniques that we perform in our clinic the last 2 years. Also, to share the clinical indications and refractive outcomes with the audience, by presenting some interesting clinical cases from our daily practice.
Setting:
We present four refractive cases that were in borderline limits to undergo either LASIK or PRK. Instead we performed PRK Xtra and LASIK Xtra procedures in order to complete the surgeries on the safe side. This is not a technique for Keratoconic eyes.
Methods:
For PRK Xtra after normal PRK we instilled Riboflavin Xtra (Vitamin B2) for 90 sec and we exposed the eye to UV light (2.7 J/cm2 Avedro, Massachusetts, USA) for another 90 sec to stabilize the cornea. For LASIK Xtra after normal LASIK we instilled Riboflavin Xtra for 90 sec and we exposed the eye for another 90 sec, after flap repositioning.
Results:
All cases were completed without any complications and refractive surprises. After 2-year of follow up the results remain the same and all corneas were clear and stable.
Conclusions:
PRK Xtra and LASIK Xtra seem to be safe and effective techniques in bordeline patients either for corneal pachymetry reasons or high ametropia. Of course larger series of treatments are needed over time.
