Abstract Details
Purpose:
As a resident in the field of Ophthalmology, I always felt the need to document my findings of all the interesting cases I came across in the hospital .
A conventional slit lamp camera is expensive and usually immobile.
Not all clinics are equipped with anterior segment slit lamp camera.
Smartphones are usually incorporated with high resolution cameras. All these factors and my urge to do something about it, made me explore the various cost friendly and easy ways to document anterior and posterior segment images using a smartphone.
Setting:
PGIMER & Dr RML Hospital , New Delhi , India
Methods:
All the images are taken using a self made universal slitlamp adapter for a smartphone. ( No financial interest)
The smartphone used is : Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. ( No financial interest)
The slitlamp used is : Appaswamy Model : AIA 11 3S / 3S L. ( No financial interest)
Results:
Multiple anterior, as well as, posterior segment images and videos were taken successfully, using a smartphone mounted on a slitlamp.
Conclusions:
In the era today, most doctors are equipped with a smartphone which can help us not only in our daily lives but also at our work.Smartphone photography is something simple and yet very useful in the world of ophthalmology. With this attempt, smartphone slit lamp camera should no longer be seen as something unattainable to ophthalmologist. Even posterior segment and gonioscopy images can be captured using this adapter. The slit lamp adapter can be used as a telemedicine tool in outreach programmes where expert consultation is not available and is really helpful to train and teach the newly joined residents in ophthalmology.
