Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the use of toric IOL in a group of patients that includes both keratoconus patients as well as patients that have underwent a penetrating keratoplasty (PKP).
Setting:
Ophthalmica Institute , Thessaloniki, Greece.
Methods:
30 eyes of 25 patients who were subjected to PKP or were diagnosed with Keratoconus underwent phacoemulsification and toric IOL implantation. The patients were monitored post operatively by checking their visual acuity (VA), calculating surgical induced astigmatism (SIA) and measuring their post-operative spherical equivalent and post-operative cylinder.
Results:
Most of the patients showed a marked improvement in visual acuity, and a reduction of the cylinder, reporting much better vision.
Conclusions:
Toric IOL may be considered as a useful tool to improve visual acuity and reduce astigmatism in patients that present keratoconus or underwent a penetrating keratoplasty (PKP)
