Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of this work is to compare the refractive outcome of cataract surgery assisted by femtosecond laser and standard phacoemulsification.
Setting:
study conducted in Alexandria eye center during the period from January 2016 till January 2018
Methods:
This prospective non randomized study has been conducted on patients suffering from cataract starting from the year 2016 .100 eyes were included in the study,50 operated by standard phacoemulsification and 50 by FLACS.
Exclusion criteria were poor general medical, nystagmus, undilated pupil and associated ocular co-morbidities as macular disorders, glaucoma or corneal disorders.
Results:
Mean absolute error was 0.56±0.50D (range 0-2D) and 0.694±0.730 (range 0-3.2) in FLACS and CPCS groups respectively. In FLACS group ,number of eyes within 0.25 diopters ,0.5 D .1 D and 1.5 D from target refraction were34(68%),38(76%).44(88%) and 48 (96%)eyes respectively .These percentages were less at all categories in CPCS group with a statistically significant less cumulative percentages of eyes within 0.25 D(40%).o.5 D(48%)and 1.5D(84%) from intended post- operative target refraction .Less post-operative refractive as well as surgically induced astigmatism was noticed in FLACS group ( SAI 0.35±0.67 in FLACS group versus 0.901±0.882 in CPCS p value=0.015) .
Conclusions:
FLACS to be a safe predictable procedure which has the potential for reducing preexisting corneal astigmatism with no clinically significant superiority in the term of post operative spherical refractive error over existing conventional phacoemulsification
