Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate and compare morphology of the cornea, morphometric parameters of the corneal flap and stromal bed smoothness after flap creation using 1 MHz (Femto Visum, Russia) and 5 MHz (Femto LDV Z6, Switzerland) femtosecond laser platforms
Setting:
S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Moscow, Russia
Methods:
Corneal flaps were created in the 44 human cadaveric eyes using Femto Visum (1 MHz group, n=22) and Femto LDV Z6 (5 MHz group, n=22) femtosecond laser platforms. The morphology of the cornea after flap creation was examined using inverted microscope IX81 (Japan). The thickness, diameter, side cut angle of the corneal flap and quantitative parameters of the stromal bed smoothness were measured with the 3D-digital microscope KH-8700 (Japan). In addition, the stromal bed was examined by scanning electron microscopy Quanta 200 3D (USA) for qualitative smoothness assessment. Mann—Whitney nonparametric statistical analysis was performed to compare between groups
Results:
Morphology of the cornea after flap creation was similar in the 1 MHz and 5 MHz groups. In the both groups, the flap thickness was thinner than intended, but there was no statistical significant difference between two groups (p>0.05). In the 1 MHz and 5 MHz groups, the diameter and side cut angle of the corneal flap corresponded intend parameters, with no statistically significant difference between the both groups (p>0.05). The quantitative and qualitative assessments of stromal bed smoothness were similar between the 1 MHz and 5 MHz groups (p>0.05)
Conclusions:
LASIK flap creation using 1 MHz and 5 MHz femtosecond laser platforms lead to similar outcomes (p>0.05)
