Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the predictability and safety of Visian ICL for correction of low myopia

Setting:

Magrabi Eye hospital - jeddah

Methods:

Thirty five eyes of 19 consecutive patients underwent ICL and TICL implantation for myopic astigmatism. Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), manifest refractive cylinder, corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA) and uncorrected distanat visual acuity (UDVA) were reported preoperatively and 1 year after surgery. Any intraoperative or postoperative complications were reported.

Results:

Twenty five eyes had ICL and 10 eyes had TICL, ICL group had preoperative manifest refractive cylinder of ? 1.0 diopter while TICL group had ? 1.0 D of refractive cylinder. Preoperatively, the mean MRSE was -3,23 D ± 0,71 D (range -4,0 to -2,00) and the mean refractive cylinder was 0,79 D ± 0,59 D (range -2,25 to 0,00). 1 year after surgery (31 eyes, 88,6%), the mean MRSE was -0,26 D ± 0,30 D (range -0,88 to 0,38) and the mean refractive cylinder was 0,47 D ± 0,40 D (range -1,25 to 0,00). 27 eyes (87.1%) were within 0.5 D of MRSE, None of the study group lost more than 1 line of the preoperative CDVA.

Conclusions:

Visian ICL is a safe and predictable procedure for correction of low myopia.
