Abstract Details

Purpose:

We describe a modified technique without complete pars plana vitrectomy for extraction of total or subluxation more than 180° dislocated crystalline lens in which vitrectomy infusion cannula was set up.

Setting:

Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital

Methods:

With infusion flow into posterior vitreous cavity, exit from limbal incision, the back-flow will help lifting the dislocated lens from the posterior vitreous cavity into the anterior chamber where they were divided and removed.

Results:

The described technique was used in 17 eyes including cases of traumatic dislocation, Marfan’s syndrome, and hypermature cataract with excellent anatomical results and no complications that could be attributed to the surgical technique in 16 eyes. Only one eye failed to life the lens with this modified technique.

Conclusions:

The ‘flow-lifting method’ is to allow general ophthalmologists and cataract surgeons lacking facilities for posterior vitrectomy to be able to handle cases of dropped lens by just adding an posterior infusion cannula.
