Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report 6 month follow-up data related to safety and efficacy

Setting:

University-based refractive clinic

Methods:

Inlay (Presbia Flexivue Microlens™, Presbia Coöperatief U.A., Netherlands) was implanted in the non-dominant eye of presbyopic patients after the creation of a 300 microns depth stromal pocket using a femtosecond laser. Patients were followed according to a clinical protocol including refraction, anterior segment imaging analysis and wavefront evaluation.

Results:

Twenty-two (22) patients have been enrolled to date in this ongoing study. The mean age is 50,3 years (range 45 to 60 years); 77,3 % female, 22.7% male . The mean UNVA improved four lines in 73% of eyes treated with the Microlens, and three lines in all eyes to date. The binocular UDVA is 20/20 in all cases. Half of the patients reported vision to be good or excellent. At the latest follow-up period (3 months postoperatively), induction of corneal spherical aberration is statistically significant (as intended to improve near visual acuity). No intraoperative or postoperative complications are reported.

Conclusions:

In this preliminary data analysis, Presbia Flexivue Microlens™provided patients with improved near vision as a function of a myopic shift and negative spherical aberration. This intracorneal inlay appears to be an effective alternative to other procedures for the correction of presbyopia.
