Abstract Details

Purpose:

In 1996 the author of this article designed an IOL with a special haptic design with 4 elastic "legs" for a better alignment and extremely stable positioning of the IOL in the capsular bag. The popularity of this IOL design could increase significantly, if the implantation process of the IOL were simplified. Insertion of the IOL into the cartridge is more challenging than with "normal" c-loop or plate designs.

Setting:

The procedure of implantation from inserting the IOL into the cartridge to aligning the IOL in the capsular bag or in the sulcus is shown with several examples.

Methods:

The IOL which is available with monofocal, toric or multifocal optics is easy to implant both into the capsular bag and in the sulcus, is very stable and does not rotate or tilt and is also easy to handle with narrow pupils and high dioptres.

Results:

The haptic concept which is also known as "Turtle Haptic" has especially shown to better adapt to different sizes of capsular bags than the more popular plate and c-loop haptics.

Conclusions:

The "Turtle-4-Haptic" design shows very good stability and centering characteristics in the capsular bag and the sulcus with an easy and comfortable implantation technique.
