Abstract Details

Purpose:

A new intraocular lens to be implanted in case of rupture of posterior capsule and lake of capsular support.

Setting:

This experimental surgery was done on the right lens of flander rabbits.

Methods:

: The study was carried out on ten flander rabbits, the right eye of each rabbit was operated. The rabbits eyes underwent intracpasular lens extraction, two peripheral iridectomeis were done, the new lens implanted that has an optic rest in posterior chamber and the haptics rest in the angle of anterior chamber through peripheral irdectomeis. Main Outcome Measures: Lens stability inside the eye and complications regarding this technique.

Results:

Ciliary injection was marked in the first postoperative week and disappeared after that, mild corneal edema was marked for three days after surgery then the cornea became clear.Coapted edges of corneal wound with no epithelial defect were observed after one week of surgery. Intraocular lens were stable in position with mild inflammatory reaction in front of the lens at the level of pupillary area in the four eyes with hyphema and this reaction disappeared after 10 days of surgery.

Conclusions:

The new lens design has a good intraocular stability inside the eye when the posterior capsular support is absent and had minimal inflammatory reaction inside the eye.
