Abstract Details

Purpose:

High levels of decentration can degrade the optical image attained from an intraocular lens (IOL) especially if coupled with lens tilt. Aberration neutral aspheric IOLs have an optical profile robust to the visual degradation caused by decentration but still benefit from a stable and predictable lens position. The aim of this study was to assess the centrational stability of a new micro incision IOL designed with four angulated haptics.

Methods:

Fifty seven patients were implanted with the Incise™ one-piece acrylic aberration neutral aspheric IOL through a sub 2 mm incision. Subjects were seen post-operatively at 7-15 days (V2) and 1-2 months (V3) where the IOL was imaged using digital slit lamp biomicrosopy. To determine IOL centration, the center of 2 ovals overlaid to circumscribe the IOL optic edge and the limbus respectively were compared.

Results:

The axial length of subjects ranged from 21.41 to 25.15 mm and IOL power ranged from 15.D to 27.0D. All surgeries were uneventful. The IOLs centered in a predictable superior nasal position and the absolute mean centration was 0.34±0.13 mm and 0.38±0.09 mm, at V2 (n=39) and V3 (n=11), respectively. No lens was decentered by more than 0.6mm at any visit.

Conclusions:

The Incise™ micro incision IOL demonstrated predictable and stable centration 1-2 months post implantation. Longer term results (V4) will be presented to confirm the stability of the lens.
