Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the accuracy of planned clear cornea incisions after femtosecond laser cataract surgery.

Setting:

Auge und Laser Clinic, Baden

Methods:

Cataract surgery was performed using the LenSx femtosecond laser in 25 eyes of 22 patients. The laser was programmed to perform a 5.0 mm capsulorhexis, fragmentation of the nucleus, and a main and a side port incision. The incisions were then analyzed up to 4 weeks postoperative using the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT with the anterior segment module.

Results:

The main incisions were all programmed to be stepped with different angles of incidence, whereas the side port incisions were programmed by angle of incidence only. Preoperative programmed tunnel length of the main incision was a mean 1662 µm (range 1402 to 1711 µm) and OCT measured 1599 µm (range 1399 to 1822 µm). Effective tunnel length was a mean 1830 µm (range 1714 to 2048 µm) and OCT measured 1780 µm (range 1755 to 2060 µm). The programmed angles of incidence in the 3 planes of the main incision as well of the side incision correlated well with the OCT measured angles.

Conclusions:

Corneal incisions with the LenSx femtosecond laser were all detectable by anterior segment OCT imaging. There was a detectable but not significant difference in planned versus achieved incision length and architecture.
