Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate a novel and innovative technique of making port holes in anterior capsule for assessment of postoperative rotation of Toric IOL in the capsular bag.

Setting:

Rawat Eye & Phaco surgery centre, Jaipur, India

Methods:

This paper will demonstrate the novel technique of making Port Holes in Anterior Capsule to mark the Toric IOL axis for assessment of postoperative rotation of Toric IOL’s. After aligning the Toric IOL to the desired axis in the capsular bag, High Frequency Capsulotomy probe is used to make port holes in anterior capsule over the outermost toric IOL marks at each side of the IOL optic. Viscoelastic is removed from the anterior chamber and wounds are hydrostitched. Post-operatively in fully dilated pupil, the port holes in the anterior capsule are seen over the Toric IOL mark signifying the accurate alignment of Toric IOL. Rotation of the Toric IOL can be easily picked up by its deviation from port holes made in the anterior capsule.

Results:

This technique is being used in 20 cases safely and successfully without any capsule related complications.

Conclusions:

The technique is novel and unique in the way that this is the only technique which uses anterior capsule as reference landmark whose position in eye never changes. The advantages of this technique is that it is accurate, fast, doesn’t rely on sophisticated softwares, free from observer’s bias, independent of cyclorotation of eye and head position of patient.
