Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate and compare the prediction error in pediatric eyes using the Holladay 1, Hoffer Q, Holladay II and SRK/T formulae.

Setting:

Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre, Raghudeep Eye Clinic

Methods:

Prospective,interventional case series in 117 eyes undergoing pediatric cataract surgery with intraocular lens(IOL) implantation.Prediction error was calculated using the predicted postoperative refraction minus actual postoperative refraction.This was done for each formula using manufacturerÂ’s lens constant,as well as the personalized lens constant.Further, prediction error was evaluated according to axial length.

Results:

Median age at surgery was 1.72 years and median follow-up,27 days.Using Holladay 2,Holladay 1,Hoffer Q,and SRK/T formulae with manufacturerÂ’s lens constant, mean absolute prediction error was 1.2 diopter(D)+1.18 (SD),1.29D+1.25,1.43D +1.37,and 1.19D +1.15 respectively.Mean absolute prediction error was 1.2D +1.15,1.26D +1.18,1.37D +1.29,1.19D +1.1 respectively when using personalized lens constant. SRK/T and the Holladay 2 formula had the least absolute prediction error

Conclusions:

In pediatric eyes, the SRK/T and the Holladay 2 formula had the least absolute prediction error even in the absence of preoperative refraction. Because of multiple variables causing inaccurate prediction, personalization of lens constant did not significantly improve absolute prediction error
