Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the outcome of cataract surgery in patients with VKH syndrome.

Setting:

Tertiary eye institute in South India

Methods:

Retrospective interventional study

Results:

33 eyes of 23 patients were included. median age was 42 years and 82% were female. At the time of surgery, 75% were on oral steroids alone and 48% were on immunosuppressive as well. 71% had extensive synechia and non-dilating pupils. Complications including PC rent in 11%, raised post-op inflammation in 58% and raised IOP in 15%. Pre-operative visual acuity was less than 20/400 in 70 % of patients. Post-operative, 45% patient had visual acuity of 20/60 or better.

Conclusions:

In our series, visual outcome was fair in quiescent VKH. Extensive posterior synechia and synechiolysis was associated with increased post operative inflammation.Cause of visual loss was extensive retinal pigment epithelial changes.
